SBAC Membership

Scalby Beck Angling Club is run by a voluntary committee made up of five existing members, A chairman, a secretary and three other members. There are also two honorary long standing members that have all served as previous chairman/secretary for more than 20 years and are a valuable asset to our club. Their knowledge of the beck and its social history as well as the fishing ,has been very useful in helping sort out the constant occurring problems. which we have now managed out of the club. We do plan to promote existing members to the Honorary position once the candidate fits the clubs moral and ethical criteria. The membership is currently set by the committee at thirty five. The majority of these members have been with the club for more than twenty years and availability for joining the club is limited. However we do have the rare occurrence of people leaving the club and the waiting list that we have is called upon first. We currently have no openings for new members for the 2022 season, but if you are interested in joining our club then please send your details to the club secretary he will then send you an application form and your name can be added to our waiting list. He can be contacted at scalbybeckac@gmail.com

If you have applied to other Angling clubs (such as the Esk and Derwent Anglers Club) and have been refused entrance then please do not apply to our small friendly club.

All prospective members are provided with a guided tour of the Beck and a map of the named pools once they have joined the club and will get to meet other members  at our regular social events. There is an annual Club Duck dinner at the start of the season, which is also twinned with our AGM, where last years events are discussed along with any new projects or maintenance that needs attention. This years dinner was attended by Twenty nine members. We do have members that are linked to other clubs such as the river Esk, Derwent, Rye, Dove,Ure and Driffield Beck. So there is always a possibility of getting guest tickets to these rivers which you normally wouldn’t get to fish. We also have club Days where we arrange to go to local reservoirs to fly fish for big rainbows, such as Leighton and Swinton. These are open to all current members.

All members are invited to attend one work party per season (Members over 60 yrs old are exempt). Work parties are for minor bank maintenance and strimming of footpaths nothing to difficult. Any major projects are carried out with assistance from contracted experts. All club members are welcome. We also ask all members that they adhere to the country code and behave in a polite manner to other people they come into contact with whilst on the Beck. That they don’t leave any litter, close all gates and do not leave any used and unwanted fishing tackle, especially nylon line as this can kill the wildlife.

Scalby beck Angling club as custodians of the beck are constantly striving to enhance the water quality of the beck and improve the environment in the surrounding areas. We currently have a breeding bird survey in conjunction with the B.T.O. And Also a summer butterfly survey in conjunction with the centre for hydrology and ecology. We are regularly conducting river entomology surveys all year round. These are completed by our own members and data is submitted to the relevant websites and published.
